Wānanga Whakapapa Taiohi 10-16
KAUPAPA WHAKAPAPA
As an extension of our Hononga Whakapapa Event, the Ngati Tahu - Ngati Whaoa Rūnanga Trust open a space for whānau to invest into their whakapapa from the 4th - 5th of October 2025. Whakapapa is an interwoven thread that connects us to whenua (land), whānau (family), atua (spiritual guardians) and au (self).
This wānanga focuses on one Whakapapa Tararere - to trace a single line of descent from Tahu Matua or Marae Tūpuna to yourself. Through Te Ao Māori inspired exercises we explore concepts, aspirations, barriers, roles, and aims of whakapapa to help us heal, release, rejuvenate, revive and Indigenise our way of being, doing and knowing. Our aim is to provide you with tools to help you whakapapa to Ngati Tahu - Ngati Whaoa tūpuna and whenua.
UTU | Cost
Our tamariki play an important role for our iwi. As they are the future holders of our pūrākau (inherent stories), whakapapa (ancestral ties), kaitiaki - protectors of our whenua and tikanga. We encourage you to bring your tamariki, taiohi and rangatahi with the expectation that they will participate. A lower cost of $10 is provided for dependents aged 10-16, tamariki under 10 are free of charge. Tamariki under 10 must be included on the Adult registration form.
We encourage a DEVICE FREE WĀNANGA so whānau are engaged and respect others shared kōrero. Photos and reels will be taken for reporting and marketing purposes for future initiatives. On our form please indicate that you do not wish to participate in media forums or photographs.
