Wānanga Whakapapa

$30.00

KAUPAPA WHAKAPAPA

As an extension of our Hononga Whakapapa Event, the Ngati Tahu - Ngati Whaoa Runanga Trust open aspace for whanau to invest into their whakapapa from the 4th - 5th of October 2025. Whakapapa is an interwoven thread that connects us to whenua (land), whanau (family), atua (spiritual guardians) and au (self).

This wananga focuses on one Whakapapa Tararere - to trace a single line of descent from Tahu Matua or Marae Tupuna to yourself. Through Te Ao Maori inspired exercises we explore concepts, aspirations, barriers, roles, and aims of whakapapa to help us heal, release, rejuvenate, revive and Indigenise our way of being, doing and knowing. Our aim is to provide you with tools to help you whakapapa to Ngati Tahu - Ngati Whaoa tupuna and whenua.

UTU | Cost

We have opted to set a moderate fee of $30 an Adult for this exclusive wananga whakapapa. The fee is a token of your commitment to your whakapapa, to iwi matauranga, to our whenua and to this kaupapa. We know the Runanga holds a lot of korero tuku iho, and we are wanting to share it. However, we need whanau to attend and commit to the kaupapa.

Our tamariki play an important role for our iwi. As they are the future holders of our pūrākau (inherent stories), whakapapa (ancestral ties), protectors of our whenua and tikanga. We encourage you to bring you tamariki, taiohi and rangatahi with the expectation that they will participate. A lower cost of $10 is provided for dependents aged 10-16, tamariki under 10 are free of charge.

We encourage a DEVICE FREE WANANGA so whanau are engaged and respect others shared korero. Photos and reels will be taken for reporting and marketing purposes for future initiatives. On our form please indicate that you do not wish to participate in media forums or photographs.
