So, whats going on?
Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa is involved in the CNI Treaty Settlement (for more info please see www.cniiwiholdingsltd.co.nz). Stage 3 of the CNI Mana Whenua process is currently underway for the allocation of 9 Crown Forestry Lands (please refer to map on below).
Iwi are presenting their cases to prove their Mana Whenua to these lands.
Which Iwi are involved in the Mana Whenua Process?
The 9 CFL’s are being disputed by 8 groups they are:
Te Pumautanga O Te Arawa (Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa & Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao), Ngai Tuhoe, Ngati Manawa, Ngati Rangitihi, Ngati Tuwharetoa, Ngati Whakaue, Ngati Raukawa and Ngati Whare.
Why does your Iwi need you?
The Runanga as your Iwi Authority has attempted to defend our position, but the battle is becoming increasingly difficult on our own.
Contentions exist with other Iwi, claiming Mana Whenua of our Tribal Lands and making public statements claiming not only our Marae, but our whakapapa and Iwi History.
Whilst we know this is not right, we need our Iwi, we need you to come along to the hui and to uphold the mana of our tribe – by making our presence felt.
